In Reading this week we are reviewing skills that we have been working with off and on again all semester. We will compare two texts, create timelines, and identify the main idea of a text. The last two weeks we also spent a fair amount of time understanding main idea. This is a crucial skill for our students and they often struggle with separating the facts from the big ideas. I'd encourage you to talk about this with your students any chance you get.
In Texas History we have been and will continue to study the Texas Revolution for Independence from Mexico. In the past two weeks we looked at the events which started the war and then explored the battles at The Alamo, Goliad, and San Jacinto. This week students will be researching and writing about key figures from this time period.
In Writing we have wrapped up a multiple week research and writing project where students wrote many biographical papers about a person they picked. We will end the semester by focusing back in on expository planning and writing. This will give us a strong foundation for the work we will be doing in the spring.
I hope you have a great week. Don't forget to check the Daily Agenda for day to day information about what we are working on in class.
